2) The three most important aspects of a good relationship with your home watch company are communication;
communication and communication. There is nothing more essential. If your home watch service is confronted with a crisis – a tree has fallen on your home, a hurricane is bearing down, you have important mail, a sinkhole has materialized in your front yard, the toilet burst and is flooding your home (to name a few of the events we have managed in our 10 years in business) – we need to be able to reach you or your representative to act on your behalf and assist in decision making, as quickly as possible.
If you are hard to reach, procrastinate in decision making or give one word answers to complex questions it makes our job much harder than it needs to be. If you want your home well cared for, you need to be able to respond to your home watch representatives, or designate someone who can. Sometimes we have to work with administrative assistants as the client’s representative because a CEO is too busy to talk to us. That’s fine! But officially deputize the assistant to interrupt you if there is an emergency or give them the authority to aid us in making decisions. If your house is flooding, should we wait for the meeting to end to begin remediation?
Our contract stipulates that we have a responsibility to the home if there is an emergency. If we can’t reach you or a representative we will move to secure the home and start to remedy any issues. This clause is important for our clients, especially those who live several time zones away or travel a lot. However, we prefer to work with the home owner or their representative in putting together the remediation plan.
